A sheave is a wheel with a groove in the edge of its rim. The groove is designed to hold a wire, rope, belt, or cable so that it can be pulled. Sheaves are used in many different applications, including cranes and lifting equipment, industrial machinery, transportation equipment, construction equipment, and more. Sheaves are typically made of metal, but plastic sheaves are ideal for use in multiple applications as they cause less abrasion of the wire or rope.

Superior Plastics Sheaves for Demanding Applications

At Polymershapes, we manufacture plastic sheave wheels precision-machined to tight tolerances and offer excellent wear resistance. Our sheaves are available in various sizes, shapes, and colors to meet your specific needs. We have a wide range of standard sizes and bore configurations to choose from, or we can custom manufacture a sheave to meet your specific requirements. Our plastic sheaves are ideal for demanding applications where metal versions would be too heavy or prone to failure.

Our sheaves are typically made from two types of high-performance thermoplastics:

  • Nylon – Nylon is easy to machine due to its size options, lightweight, wear-resistance, high strength, durability, high impact resistance, and reliable chemical resistance.
  • Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW) – This semi-crystalline thermoplastic material has a continuous use temperature range of up to 180° F (82° C), superior abrasion resistance, low coefficient of friction, good corrosion resistance, and excellent impact strength.
